Colour and Transmutation
Transmutation is a collection of Symon Potter’s best works to date - showing a progression through each painting in an organic manner, conveying movement & time - a journey of self-discovery & discipline. Transmutation means change. It also means alchemy, turning metal into gold. Resin, gold leaf, the latest paints, and colour mutate and transform into a rich artwork.
This exhibition features the artist’s work from 2016-2022 .
Much of this was created during a time of change and lockdown, these works capture a nostalgia for times past - the smell of paint in art rooms as a child or the sun sinking slowly below the horizon in far off lands.
Travelling has opened Symon’s eyes to the World and been a huge source of inspiration.
He spent the best part of a decade living in India, Thailand, Australia and Indonesia
where he absorbed the smells, sounds, colours and culture.
Symon draws on these in his art, for example, Ladakh where the vibrant mix of gold, saffron and red is informed by Buddhist temples in the Himalayas.
He wants you, the viewer, to be intrigued when you look at the work.
Stay and take a closer look, let yourself be hypnotised, walk away with a strong feeling or sensation.
Symon’s paintings are an extension of his inner voice, his VISION, a mood & expression of the human spirit. Above all, they are about how he views the World through calm and chaos.
